Mir Alam Tank8 km from Hyderabad, Mir Alam Tank is a large lake adjacent to Nehru Zoological Park. Named after its builder, Mir Alam, who was the Prime Minister of Hyderabad from 1804 - 1808, the tank has a unique type of construction with 21 Semi Circular Granite Masonry Dams. Next to the tank is the Nehru Zoological Park. AmravatiAmaravati is small town situated on the banks of river Krishna near Guntur. Known earlier as Dhanyakatakam and "Deepaladinne", it was the former capital of the Satavahanas and an important Buddhist center. The country’s largest stupa- the Mahachaitya Stupa, built during the 2nd century BC, can be found here. 29 m high with a width of 49 m, a 14 ft railing surrounds the stupa. The path encircling it is 15 ft wide. Engraved on the cornice are tales from Buddha's life. The British archaeologist Colonel Colin Mackenzie discovered it in 1797. The temple of Amareswara is also located here. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, it houses a massive Lingam. The Thousand Pillar Temple is yet another fine specimen of Chalukyan style of architecture and sculpture. Built in 1163 by Rudra Deva on the slopes of the Hanamakonda hills, the temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, Vishnu and Surya is renowned for its intricate carved pillars, screens and detailed sculpture. The black basalt Nandi, which measures 1.8 metres in height, has a lovely polished finish. Other attractions at Warangal include the Bhadrakali Temple noted for its stone image of Kali. Situated on a hilltop between Hanamkonda and Warangal, the goddess is depicted with eight arms and carries a weapon in each hand; The Ramappa temple at Palampet located 64 kms from Warangal dates back to 1234 A.D. The temple's pillars, brackets and ceiling have ornately carved sculpture depicting scenes from the Ramayana and the Mahabharata; the 2,000-year-old Jain temple famous for its 5ft high image of Mahavira carved entirely out of jade; the Kolanupaka Museum and the temples of Sri Veeranarayana and Sri Someswara. One of the oldest temples of South India, the temple is also referred to as Swayambhustala, i.e., one that came into existence on its own, though recorded evidence date the history of the temple to almost 2,000 years. A masterpiece of Dravidian temple architecture, the temple expanded and prospered under the Pallavas, Cholas and the Vijayanagara Kings all of whom made generous contributions to the temple. A distinctive feature of the temple is its gopuram and the vimana. The vimana, which is completely covered with gold plate, is known as Ananda Nilayam. It is said that Krishnadevaraya, on one of his many visits to the temple, donated gold and jewels enabling the Vimana (inner shrine) roofing to be gilded. The statues of Krishnadevaraya and his consort can be seen in the temple. Besides the Lord Venkateswara temple, the Govindarajaswamy Temple, Kapilathiraham temple, Kodandaraswamy Temple and the Padmavati temple are the other temples of importance where devotees can pay their obeisance. NagarjunakondaAn important Buddhist destination with stupas depicting scenes from the life of the Buddha.They are associated the a very well known Buddhist scholar from 2nd century who went by the name of Nagarjuna.
